Pro-Shane. Pro-Merle (or just pro-Dixon). Accurate medical situations and treatments. Recovery from past abuse and addiction. Mental health recovery. Rick actually dealing with his PTSD instead of magically becoming the group's leader. Accurate portrayal of Southern and redneck culture and survival skills. Pro-Lori. Anti-SlutShaming. Children aren't cannon fodder.
AU (Non-ZA) Gift Fic: A traffic stop in the October rain while his partner's on paternity leave sets wheels in motion for Deputy Shane Walsh to participate in the carefully off the books and unofficial domestic violence rescue his grandmother runs.
AU: Having a gun pointed at the back of his head by a pissed off woman on a hot Atlanta roof is enough to make Rick Grimes reassess his plans for the day. But the group leads him back to his family. Shane's world is rocked by Rick's return, leaving him grasping at anything positive to replace what's slipped beyond his grasp.
AU: Leaving a sick man behind makes some of the Atlanta Quarry group reassess their own prejudices, but it may be too late for them to salvage the situation with the Dixon family. Reconciling the failure to patch together all these different personalities into a cohesive group leads Deputy Shane Walsh to finally come to grips with the fact that the apocalypse is here to stay.
AU: Shane's personality always put him in Rick's shadow, and it was a place he didn't mind being because his brother is a good man. Learning to step into the light himself is one of the hardest things he's ever done. Carol's never expected to become anything more than Sophia's mother and Ed's punching bag, but the end of the world changes all that for her. Merle's more than the raging addict who nearly died on a roof for his mistakes, and he intends to make sure he makes up for them. And Daryl? He just wants his family safe even when it keeps growing to include people like Sophia and Glenn.
The sequel will be darker than Part One, primarily due to changes for the Saviors storyline. The nature of the AU world developed in the Homestead stories does not allow for the redemption of a man of Negan's violence and dubcon. Please be aware that Negan will die in this sequel.
In the Service of Others isn't about war, or strength, but instead of just how far a person will go to protect others even at the cost of their own soul... thus the title.
Future stories will cover the Whisperer story arc. A planned epilogue will be set 100 years post-ZA.
